1) Abhinav Bindra wins gold in men's 10m air rifle at Common Wealth Games 2014:  Abhinav Bindra made his swansong appearance at the Commonwealth Games a memorable one as the star Indian shooter won the battle of nerves in a gripping competition to bag the 10m Air Rifle gold medal, which has eluded him in the previous four attempts. Bindra, first Indian Olympic individual gold medallist, shot an aggregate of 205.3 to set a new Final Games Record. 
This is first CWG, which applied the ISSF rule of taking the final round score only and not adding the qualification score in shooting.

2) Civil services aspirants intensified protest, govt appeals for patience: The government on Friday appealed to protesting civil services aspirants to be "patient" and said it would not tolerate any injustice to them on the basis of language. A three-member government appointed committee is looking into the demands of civil services aspirants to change the pattern of the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) to give level-playing field to those coming from rural areas. There are two compulsory papers of 200 marks each in the preliminary examination. These papers are also known as CSAT I and CSAT II. Students have been objecting to the level of aptitude and English language questions being asked in the CSAT II paper claiming they are much above the standard prescribed for the examination.

3) Congress not eligible for LoP post, says Attorney General: In a setback to Congress which has been fighting for the Leader of Opposition post, Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi has opined that it is not eligible and there is no precedent since the days of the first Lok Sabha to grant the post to a party which does not have the minimum required MPs. Rohatgi has conveyed this to Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan who had sought his opinion in view of the dilemma she is facing over the issue, sources said.

4) CAG of India akes Over as Member of UN Board of Auditors: The Comptroller & Auditor General of India on 25 July 2014 assumed office as Member of the United Nations Board of Auditors for a six year term upto June 2020. Shri Shashi Kant Sharma took over the charge of this prestigious position from Mr. Liu Jiayi, the Auditor General of the People’s Republic of China at the United Nations Headquarters at New York. Shri Sharma was elected to this position defeating Philippines by a convincing margin of 62 votes in November 2013.  

5) Ukrainian prime minister Arseny Yatseniuk resigned: Ukraine's prime minister has resigned after the governing coalition collapsed, in a sign that five months after the Maidan protests led to a change of government, the country's political system is still beset by discord. The government is struggling to defeat an insurgency by pro-Russian separatists in the east of the country, where a Malaysia Airlines jet was downed last Thursday.

6) Tandon sworn in as Chhattisgarh Governor: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Balram Das Tandon was sworn in as the governor of Chhattisgarh on Friday. The Chief Justice of Bilaspur High Court Justice Yatindra Singh administered the oath of office to Mr. Tandon at a ceremony in Raj Bhavan here, which was attended by the Chief Minister, the State Cabinet Ministers and other dignitaries.
